Suspected arson attack causes severe damage

An historic building in a harbour front location in the Channel Islands was severely damaged by a suspected arson attack. Progress with the claim was initially delayed by a lengthy police and forensic investigation preventing any access to the site.

With neighbours on both sides and structural stability compromised by the fire, urgent measures needed to be taken to shore up and make safe the building. Less severely damaged areas of the building at the rear were reinstated ahead of the main repairs in order to allow the tenants to resume occupation and mitigate the policyholder loss of rent. Further delays were caused with the main rebuild by local authority planning official’s lengthy consideration of the rebuild proposals.

We worked as part of a team alongside surveyors, architects, structural engineers and contractors to progress this major and complex claim.
