Are you a fraudster?

“The insurance business, for instance, depends on the fact that insurers charge customers more than their insurance is worth; that’s fair enough, since if they didn’t do that they wouldn’t be viable as businesses. What isn’t fair is the panoply of cynical techniques that many insurers use to avoid, as far as possible, paying out…

The French Hospital

In March 2017, The French Hospital’s premises were damaged by fire. As a result, two flats were taken out of service for several months whilst work was carried out to re-instate them. Simon Jenkinson was appointed to support us through the process of rebuilding — and in particular to enable relations between the Charity and…

The growing problem of delays in decision making

One of the problems we’ve been encountering of late is decision-making delay by both insurers and their adjusters. There have, of course, been moves in the claims business to reduce staff levels, and anecdotal evidence is that many adjusters are under greater pressure than they find it easy to cope with. It’s ironic that these…

Fast settlement for motorcycle repair business

A long standing independent motorcycle servicing and repair business was severely damaged in a suspected arson attack. We quickly assisted the policyholder in securing temporary premises and also subcontracting work for their customers where necessary to mitigate their business interruption loss. We also liaised with machinery manufacturers and decontamination specialists to fully assess and quantify…

Warehouse and stock destroyed in severe fire

A leading electrical goods manufacturer’s main UK distribution warehouse was destroyed in a severe fire believed to have been caused by an exploding light fitting. The fire developed very quickly and most of the building and contents and stock inside were destroyed. We quickly developed a loss mitigation plan with the policyholder involving temporary warehouse…

Laundry badly damaged in fire

A long standing family business was badly damaged following a suspected arson attack. The investigation into the cause of fire was lengthy and complex and involved the insurers investigation team. Lengthy statements were taken from the family under our supervision and sufficient evidence was gathered to satisfy insurers that the policyholder was not involved in…

Suspected arson attack causes severe damage

An historic building in a harbour front location in the Channel Islands was severely damaged by a suspected arson attack. Progress with the claim was initially delayed by a lengthy police and forensic investigation preventing any access to the site. With neighbours on both sides and structural stability compromised by the fire, urgent measures needed…

Property damaged by tenant growing cannabis

A malicious damage claim was accepted after a commercial landlord’s rental property was damaged by the tenant’s use of the property as a “cannabis factory”. There were no problems with liability as the landlord had an All Risks policy with no specific exclusions.                          …

Central London pub suffers flood

Heavy rainfall lead to a flood in a central London pub after water backed up through the sewers. There were no liability issues but T&B had to engage the landlord and deal with their insurers/loss adjusters to ensure a co-ordinated restoration plan

Fire in Chinese restaurant started in kitchen

A fire in a Chinese restaurant started in the basement kitchen cooking area before spreading into extract ducting and taking out the roof four storeys above and causing damage to all other floors. Insurers looked very closely at the various kitchen warranties, including duct cleaning and attendance whilst cooking, but liability was eventually accepted.  …
